Tutoring built around Illinois classrooms.
Blackmon Tutoring serves Illinois students, from Chicago to Champaign. Every student is matched with a tutor based on subject, grade level, and learning style, then meets on a shared digital whiteboard.
Illinois families come to us for everything from elementary reading support to IAR-aligned subject tutoring and SAT prep, which carries extra weight since the SAT is also Illinois's official junior-year state test.
Every tutor holds a bachelor's or master's degree, and many are certified classroom teachers. Several specialize in supporting students with dyslexia, ADHD, and other learning differences, in addition to standard subject tutoring and test prep.

What is IAR & SAT?
The state assessment Illinois families ask us about most.
Illinois Assessment of Readiness
The IAR (Illinois Assessment of Readiness) tests English language arts and math for grades 3-8. In high school, Illinois uses the SAT, given free to all juniors during the school day, as its official state accountability test.
Champaign is home to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and because the SAT is also Illinois's state test, Chicago and Champaign families often start SAT prep earlier than families in states with a separate high school exam.

What Illinois families should know about tutoring.
Straight answers to the questions we hear most before an Illinois family books their first session.
What is the IAR, and why does it matter in Illinois?
The Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) tests English language arts and math in grades 3-8. Schools use the results to track progress and identify students who need extra support.
Why is the SAT such a big deal for Illinois juniors specifically?
Illinois uses the SAT as its official high school state accountability test, given free to every junior during the school day. That means SAT prep serves double duty in Illinois, for both state testing and college admissions.
How does tutoring work for an Illinois student?
Your student meets their tutor on a shared digital whiteboard at a scheduled time each week, whether they're in Chicago or Champaign. Notes and practice problems are shared after each session.
When should SAT prep start for an Illinois junior?
Because the SAT is given during the school day in 11th grade, start prep 12-16 weeks before that date if possible, ideally beginning the summer before junior year to cover more ground with less pressure.
