Blackmon Tutoring
Home / Why Blackmon

One tutor. One plan. Someone accountable for it.

Most tutoring fails for the same reason: nobody owns the outcome. A different instructor each week, no record of what was covered, and no way for a parent to tell whether it's working. We built Blackmon to fix exactly that.

How we started

Built by tutors who were tired of the alternative.

Blackmon started with a handful of Dallas-area families who had all tried the same things: a franchise center where their child sat in a room with four others, or a freelance tutor who was excellent right up until the week they stopped answering.

What was missing wasn't teaching talent. It was structure: a baseline before anyone starts, a plan built from it, the same tutor every week, and a written record a parent can actually check.

“Parents shouldn't have to take our word for it. If a plan is working, the reports show it. If it isn't, they show that too.”

What we believe

Three rules we don't bend.

Everything about how we run sessions comes back to these.

01

Diagnose before you teach

No student starts without a baseline. Guessing at the gap wastes the first month of sessions, and it's the month families can least afford to lose.

02

The same tutor, every week

Progress compounds when someone remembers where you left off. Rotating staff resets that relationship every session, and the student pays for it.

03

Show the parent the evidence

Session notes and progress reports go to you, not into a file. You should be able to tell whether this is working without asking us.

Who teaches your student

Not everyone who applies gets to tutor here.

Subject knowledge is the entry requirement, not the qualification. What we're actually screening for is whether someone can teach a frustrated fifteen-year-old at 6pm on a Thursday.

1

Subject testing

Every tutor sits the material they'd teach, including the test sections they'd be coaching.

2

A live teaching sample

They teach a real concept to a real student while we watch. Most applications end here.

3

Background checks

Standard screening before anyone works with a minor, in person or online.

4

Ongoing review

Tutors are reviewed against student outcomes and parent feedback each term, not just at hiring.
