Tutoring built around Florida classrooms.
Blackmon Tutoring serves Florida students, from Miami and Orlando to Tampa and Jacksonville. Every student is matched with a tutor based on subject, grade level, and learning style, then meets on a shared digital whiteboard.
Florida families come to us for everything from elementary reading support to AP exam prep and SAT/ACT coaching, often timed around the state's three-checkpoint FAST testing calendar.
Every tutor holds a bachelor's or master's degree, and many are certified classroom teachers. Several specialize in supporting students with dyslexia, ADHD, and other learning differences, in addition to standard subject tutoring and test prep.

What is FAST?
The state assessment Florida families ask us about most.
Florida Assessment of Student Thinking
FAST (Florida Assessment of Student Thinking) replaced the older FSA starting in the 2022-23 school year and is given as progress monitoring checkpoints three times during the school year rather than a single spring exam, in reading and math for most grades, plus science and end-of-course exams in high school.
Because FAST checkpoints happen in the fall, winter, and spring, Florida families get an early read on where a student stands, which makes early-year tutoring especially useful for catching gaps before the final spring checkpoint.

What Florida families should know about tutoring.
Straight answers to the questions we hear most before a Florida family books their first session.
What is FAST, and why does it matter in Florida?
FAST (Florida Assessment of Student Thinking) is Florida's statewide testing system, given as three progress-monitoring checkpoints across the school year in reading and math, rather than one spring test. That means a weak fall checkpoint is an early warning sign, not a final grade.
Why does Florida test three times a year instead of once?
The checkpoint model is designed to catch learning gaps early, in the fall and winter, so there's time to act before the final spring checkpoint. Families who start tutoring after a weak fall checkpoint often see the most improvement by spring.
How does tutoring work for a Florida student?
Your student meets their tutor on a shared digital whiteboard at a scheduled time each week, whether they're in Miami, Orlando, Tampa, or Jacksonville. Notes and practice problems are shared after each session.
When should test prep start before the SAT or ACT?
As a general guide, start SAT or ACT prep 12-16 weeks before a student's target test date, with weekly or twice-weekly sessions depending on the score gap and timeline.
